Hyperloop One announce designs for 12 minute Dubai to Abu Dhabi route

Hyperloop One and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have agreed to jointly evaluate a Hyperloop One system in greater Dubai and the UAE. The RTA are sponsoring a feasibility study, on which Hyperloop One will be working with McKinsey & Co. and the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG).

Hyperloop One have also announced designs for the world’s first Hyperloop One Portals and Hyperloop One Pods that can take passengers from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in 12 minutes – a 99 mile (159.4 km) journey that takes two hours by car. The work results from a collaboration between Hyperloop One and BIG architects and engineers.

This announcement represents the second partner agreement Hyperloop One has signed in Dubai, and the sixth agreement worldwide. The Company already announced in August that it will pursue a cargo Hyperloop One system with port operator DP World at the Jebel Ali port. Hyperloop One’s growing presence in the UAE confirms the demand for their innovative technology within the country.

Chairman of the RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, stated, “This is an opportunity to help transform the UAE from a technology consumer to a technology creator, incubating expertise for a new global industry, in line with the UAE’s Vision 2021. With Hyperloop One, we will create a new means of transportation, keeping our region at the forefront of transportation technology and innovation.”
